ICO reprimands London council for FOI-related personal data breach
21/05/2025 | ICO
The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has issued a formal reprimand to the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham Council after it exposed the personal information of 6,528 individuals, including 2,342 children, for almost two years. The personal data breach occurred in October 2021 when the council responded to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request via the WhatDoTheyKnow.com (WDTK) website. The response contained ten workbooks, with 35 hidden workbooks that included personal information.
The ICO also acknowledged the remedial actions taken by the council, which included updating guidance and procedures and providing staff training to address the breach.
