BEUC files complaint against Shien over use of dark patterns

The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) has filed a complaint with the European Commission against fast-fashion retailer Shein concerning its use of dark patterns. BEUC claims that Shein employs manipulative tactics, such as urgent pop-ups, countdown timers, and infinite scroll, to pressure customers into making more purchases. Frequent notifications are also cited, with one user receiving 12 alerts in a single day.
